MEET RUMPL ATHLETE
Amie Engerbretson is a lover of the mountains and the beautiful communities that dwell in them. Born in Tahoe and raised on the slopes of Palisades Tahoe, she spent her first day on snow at 10 months old and has been skiing for the camera (and for fun!) ever since. Hard work and a strong spirit have taken Amie around the world, working behind and in front of the lens on various outdoor industry productions. Skiing in Warren Miller Entertainment films, being featured in numerous print outlets, producing video projects and hosting her own podcast, “Long Underwear,” keep her busy and engaged through all the seasons.

20 Questions with Amie
1. Favorite place to train?
Anywhere in the mountains or outside. I definitely spend plenty of time in the gym but I love when I can train outdoors. Mountain biking and trail running are two of my favorite training activities but I also like to take my strength training outside. I love finding benches or rocks that I can do box jumps and dips and such on. It really mixes it up!
2. What moment made you realize you wanted to do this professionally?
I have been skiing my whole life and my father was a professional skier when I was young. I was always surrounded by skiing, ski culture and professional skiers. I went to college away from the mountains and it was taking skiing and the mountains out of my life that made me realize how fundamentally important they were to me and how much skiing was part of my soul and who I am. That time apart from skiing made me realize I wanted to pursue it as a career.
3. Must-have travel essential?
Great headphones are a must. I love listening to music while I travel and watching sappy romantic comedies on the plane. I need to have full stereo to take in all that cheesiness!
4. Sporting hero?
All my sports heroes tend to be women and there are countless of my actual peers that I look up to greatly. In the grander scope I have always loved Serena Williams and Misty Copeland. They both approach their sports and lives with a unique drive, power and strength that I really admire.
5. Favorite mountain?
Palisades Tahoe is my home mountain and forever and always my favorite place to ski! You just can’t beat KT-22!

6. Best piece of advice you’ve been given?
My dad once told me to be like a duck, and just let it all roll off my back like water…It was a weird piece of advice and an even weirder analogy, but it turned out to be something I often need to remind myself to do.
7. Most memorable moment in your career?
My first film trip with Warren Miller in Alaska. I had never skied in Alaska, I had never filmed with a major film company before and I had never gone heli skiing. When I got the call, I boiled over with excitement. It was 3 of my biggest dreams coming true at once!
8. Bucket list adventure?
I would love to ski in Norway and Antarctica. I have been able to tick off many of my bucket list items including Iceland, Alaska and countless legendary operations, but skiing Antarctica and skiing off a sailboat in Norway are still on that list!
9. Favorite way to recover?
On my down days, I really love slow mornings. I love to enjoy my coffee, snuggle my dog and eat delicious sourdough toast with TONS of butter.
10. Last book you read?
Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins. I am a huge Tom Robbins fan and have been on a tear. I am reading another of his novels now!

11. Biggest fear?
My biggest fear of all is being too scared and letting fear hold me back. I have dealt with a lot of trauma in my life and I have tried to heal responsibly and respect my experiences. That said, fear and trauma can shape us and I never want to let fear have control of my being…Also, snakes. Literally any size, terrified!
12. Favorite TV show to binge?
Sex and the City! Forever and always on this one, I can never get enough!
13. How do you take your coffee or tea?
Coffee with 2% milk!. When I am at home, I prefer pour over. If I am feeling boujie at a coffee shop, it is a London Fog!
14. Best concert you ever attended?
Oh this is so tough! I have been to so many amazing shows and I LOVE live music. Lake Street Dive, Paul Cauthen, Orville Peck, Father John Misty, The Kills and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are on the highlight list. I did have a fun, random, incredible experience when I was studying abroad in Paris in College. I stumbled into some Aerosmith tickets and it turns out they were front row! That was wild.
15. Favorite weather to train in?
I will take it all! I am not shy of training in the heat. I love a great sweat and I think the added benefit of “heat stress” is a nice bonus!
16. What are you listening to lately?
I love my news podcasts but they have been so hard and angering lately. I find I like to keep in touch and stay activated to keep doing my best to contribute to a society that I believe in, but I find I have to switch it off and listen to music after to unwind. I love all kinds of music but in the summer I am a country gal (much to Todd’s dismay…)!
17. Last place you traveled and why?
El Salvador for a surf trip! We went to Las Flores Surf Resort in Eastern El Salvador and it was incredible. Warm water and truly gorgeous tropical surroundings. The waves were a bit big for my comfort and ability but I caught some good ones, and of course got smoked a few times. Luckily the mojitos at the pool bar were always waiting for me!
@katelovemore
18. What do you do to prep or "get in the zone"?
I always try to make sure I get good sleep. Sleep has become my foundational health need and I have started to strongly prioritize it. I never know what a day in the backcountry will bring but I know I am worthless if I don’t get enough sleep!
19. Funniest sport memory?
One that comes to mind was the first ski trip Todd and I went on together, technically when we met. Anyways, we were ripping around Revelstoke and I was trying “show off” skiing right in front of Todd. I hit a little side air and did a huge spread eagle (why I thought this was the cool thing to do to impress Todd, we will never know). I ended up landing in a huge whole and double ejecting straight to my face… right in front of Todd. It was hilarious and mortifying. Luckily Todd ate right in front of me the next run, so we were even!
20. What's Next?
I finally got to go back to Chile this summer for some South American skiing. We haven’t been able to go the past few years because of Covid so I am really excited to get back down there and get my summer skiing fix in!
